A Ph.D is not kids stuff! Let no cleric deceive you that a doctorate is worth nothing because he doesn’t have one. It’s so annoying to see some low grade clerics disparaging Dr. Ahmad Gummi for attending a meeting of scholars in Iran.
Dr. Gummi is a learned cleric in his own right. Don’t insult a man because of differences of opinion. During the Coronavirus pandemic, some clerics claimed that it was a Jewish and American plot to undermine Islam because of the social distancing guidelines.
With his medical background and common sense approach to issues, Gummi reminded those conspiracists that the pandemic spared nobody and that we were all vulnerable if we refused to take measures to contain it.
Gummi made it very clear that Islam approves of taking safety and preventive measures during epidemics and pandemic protect the Muslim population.
According to him, those measures were consistent with Islam and that it was misleading to put Muslims in harm’s way by dismissing a medical crisis that spared no one as a plot to undermine Islam.
Gummi added his rational voice to help disabuse the minds of those who swallowed the ignorant opinions of clerics that had no knowledge of medicine, but wanted to be experts outside their sphere of knowledge.
Once again, as a reminder, don’t listen to anyone who tells you that a Ph.D is nothing! Wallahi a Ph.D is something. It’s not “kwalin banza.” Going through the rigours of scholarship is not kids stuff! Don’t be deceived by the sour grapes stories of those who despise a Ph.D in Islamic studies because they don’t have one.
