The Lagos State Government has affirmed the right of citizens to protest while cautioning against violence and destructive actions ahead of the planned nationwide protests in August.
Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized this point during a meeting with local government secretaries on Tuesday.
“It is a legitimate right for citizens to protest, but it should not become violent or destructive,” Salu-Hundeyin stated. “Lagos State has provided so much for its residents that no one should feel justified in causing damage.”

She further remarked, “Honestly, and I mean this sincerely; it’s not because I am the Secretary of the State Government. I speak from my heart, and God knows; there is no justification for anyone to incite protests, riots, or violence in Lagos State.”
