It is with a heavy heart that I write to address the recent tour of Seyi Tinubu to several northern states, a visit marred by disappointment and unfulfilled hopes.
Instead of the tangible and meaningful initiatives that the region so desperately needs, the tour was characterized by superficial gestures, leaving many residents feeling undervalued and overlooked.
Deliberately, during his visits, Seyi Tinubu opted to distribute takeaway meals, a gesture that, while appreciated in the moment, fell woefully short of addressing the pressing challenges facing our communities.
The northern states are grappling with issues that extend far beyond temporary relief; they are in dire need of structural interventions, educational programs, and sustainable solutions.
The distribution of cooked food felt more like a political spectacle than a genuine effort to improve lives.
Annoyingly, as sycophants cheered him on with songs and dances, a sense of betrayal lingered in the air. Those who should have acted as advisors to Mr. Tinubu failed to encourage him to engage deeply with the realities faced by the citizens of the north.
Their misplaced enthusiasm overshadowed an urgent call for action – a fervent cry for initiatives that could lift lives, create job opportunities, and provide much-needed support to the youth in our community.Singing and dancing is not part of our problems nor the distribution of food packs.
In a sharp contrast, during his visits to southern states, Seyi Tinubu initiated commendable medical outreach programs.
These included providing life-saving dialysis treatments for youth for two years and offering much-needed ICT and Networking education to empower the next generation.
Why, then, was the same compassion not extended to the northern states? The disparity in responses to the two regions leaves many feeling belittled and ignored.
As it were, the anger and frustration brewing across the northern states is not merely a result of perceived neglect; it is a manifestation of the vigor and resilience of people who wish to be regarded and supported.
Our region deserves better than a flashy display of goodwill that offers no meaningful change. We need leaders to step up, take bold actions, and address our statistical realities – poverty, unemployment, and lack of educational resources.
Rightly so,this tour, intended to unify and bring hope, has instead woven a deeper divide. It showcased a profound disregard for the unique challenges faced in the north. The sentiments shared by many are that this was more of a carnival and roadshow, rather than progressive and unity tour.
