Osmudiammen Johnbull, a 22-year-old suspect in an armed robbery in Edo State, claims that his companion was arrested instead of him.
The suspect was apprehended in the Ohah neighbourhood with a locally manufactured pistol, three handsets, and six rounds of ammunition after being paraded with other suspected criminals.
“I was arrested in my junction because there was a missing phone there,” he stated. The proprietor accused one of my friends who was present of stealing the phone. These things were all found when I went to my friend’s residence. I sent the police to break into his residence, but he fled with his door open, allowing the cops to examine the room and find the stolen goods.
“I have no idea about the stolen phone, and I had no idea my friend was into armed robbery.”
The spokesperson for the Edo State command, Chidi Nwabuzor, paraded the suspects and claimed that when Johnbull was arrested, he led the police to their armoury, where three handsets, six live cartridge rounds, and two locally manufactured pistols were found.
He said that more suspects who were running away were being sought after.
