Favour Idowu, a 17-year-old girl, has accused an Abuja-based medical practitioner of fleeing with her newborn baby in Dutsen-Makaranta, a community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Favour said she went to Trendy Hospital, Clinic & Maternity in Dutsen-Makaranta last Wednesday after experiencing labour symptoms.

Favour said, “The doctor gave me a pill to put under my tongue and another one in my private region. Labour began shortly after and might last up to three days. I delivered birth on Saturday. He struck the baby before it screamed, and I collapsed. When I awoke, I saw the infant near me. The next thing I saw was two females bringing the infant away. The doctor informed me that they will provide immunisations. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a new hospital.

Favour disputed that she and the doctor had agreed that he would pay her in order to acquire custody of the kid.

When asked about the baby’s father, she expressed regret that he had now denied responsibility.

Our reporter, who was in the hospital on Tuesday, adds that it was supposedly shut by police while the missing baby’s mother, Favour, was sent to another facility in the village to recover.

Favour’s older brother, Samuel Idowu, also spoke, claiming that after chatting with him over the phone for over five hours, the doctor vanished following the event.

A lady who lived near the hospital but chose to remain anonymous said there were similar occurrences at the hospital, with the most recent one sparking a brawl among residents.

Another neighbour said that around three weeks ago, a lady attacked the doctor with goons for failing to deliver a baby after receiving money from her.

Our reporter’s attempts to talk with the doctor were unsuccessful, since he was believed to be in police custody.

CSP Paul Danladi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Dutsen-Alhaji, acknowledged the occurrence and said that the investigation had been sent to Force Headquarters.
