Families of five individuals—Zubairu Dan Zaria, Husseini Haruna, Dan America, and two more—in Kpadna village, Utako District, Federal Capital Territory, have accused the police of holding their loved ones without a warrant.

The inmates had been in the Life Camp Division since Thursday, according to Ibrahim Haruna, one of the family members, when they went with Zubairu Dan Zaria to the division to check up on his confiscated tricycle (Keke NAPEP), which was purportedly used in phone snatching.

He said that the police had not given the families an explanation for why no charges had been brought against them three days following their incarceration.
He clarified, saying, “The tricycle was confiscated when Dan Zaria was in Zaria, Kaduna State, since its operator and his associates were reportedly implicated in phone stealing some weeks ago. The genuine perpetrator is still at large, however one of the suspects was previously detained by the police after being apprehended.

As a result, Haruna pleaded with the police to free the suspects since no evidence had been presented against them.

“If the owner is released, he would even help the police in their search for the real suspect,” the speaker continued.

SP Josephine Adeh, a spokesman for the FCT command, promised to look into the matter and get back to our reporter as soon as she could.
