Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command’s Ilasan Police Station have apprehended four robbery suspects: John Ifeanyi (24), Suleman Musa (27), Victor Effiong (30), and Bonaventure Oscar (24), who used to rob people using a wooden pistol.
They reportedly threatened to kill anyone who refused to hand up their goods on a street corner in the state’s Lekki-Ajah district.
When questioned why they used the carved wood to rob, they explained, “Fear is the only thing that unlocks anyone’s wallet.”
The gang’s commander, John Ifeanyi, told his interrogators that no one cared if what was aimed at them was a gun or not.
He stated, “They will simply hand over their belongings and take to their heels.”
Benjamin Hundeyin, a Lagos State police spokesperson, verified their arrest on his X account, saying it was in response to reports that a group of four men stole two victims of their belongings.
He stated, “Officers rushed to the scene and arrested the suspects.” The victims’ phones were found, as well as a locally manufactured wooden handgun.
