Nigerian actress Juliana Olayode, known for her roles in popular Nigerian dramas, has shared a deeply personal account of her experiences with abuse starting from the age of five.
In a statement on her Instagram page, the 29-year-old actress revealed the lasting impact of the trauma she endured and her path towards healing and self-acceptance.
“This version of me cannot be trampled on! She cannot be abused, belittled, or manipulated! She knows the truth!” Olayode began.
She disclosed that from the age of five, she suffered various forms of abuse from different people, a secret she kept for years that haunted her daily.
Despite outward appearances, Olayode struggled with her self-image. “No matter how much people complimented me, I just couldn’t take it,” she confessed.
The trauma led her to view herself as broken and unworthy, influencing her to wear oversized, non-revealing clothing as a form of protection.
“If they don’t see my body, perhaps they wouldn’t be attracted to me,” she thought.
However, she later realized through therapy that the issue lay with the abusers, not her body.
Therapy played a crucial role in her healing process.
Olayode recounted how her therapist encouraged her to reconnect with her inner child and feel safe again.
She was advised to wear something that made her feel good about herself without compromising her modesty.
This led her to embrace a new style that honoured her faith and helped her heal.
When she posted photos in her new style, reactions varied, but Olayode remained unfazed. “Whilst some people thought I was going astray, Jesus knew exactly what I was going through. I was healing,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to her faith and personal growth.
