A 42-year-old woman told the Ogba Chief Magistrate Court that she was astonished to see her husband defiling their 8-month-old baby.
The 42-year-old businesswoman claimed that her longtime husband, Festus Igwome, defiled their daughter at their flat in Lagos’ Surulere neighbourhood while she was out shopping.
She remarked, “My Lord, I almost fainted when I discovered my husband with his trousers down, trying to enter our 8-month-old daughter. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and I couldn’t say anything at first.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, stated that the girl’s mother reported the incident to police at the Bode Thomas police station in Surulere.
The prosecutor stated that after receiving the complaint, the accused was detained and interviewed, and the matter was then handed to the Lagos State Police Command’s Gender Section.
He claimed the complaint was filed in court at the request of the state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade.
However, when the accused was arraigned, the court did not take his plea, citing a petition filed by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, to submit the case to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal guidance.
Mrs. O. A. Layinka, the presiding magistrate, ordered his remand to detention and instructed the prosecutor to duplicate the case and transmit it to the DPP for advice.
The case was delayed until April 30.
