A 25-year-old New Jersey man has been taken into custody after allegedly stabbing his mother to death in her sleep.
The incident occurred early Monday morning at around 1:30 a.m. in Howell Township. According to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Robert Parody entered his mother’s bedroom on Porter Road and stabbed 61-year-old Loretta Parody in the chest.
The Howell Township Police Department responded to the scene shortly after the attack was reported. Loretta Parody was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Robert Parody was apprehended without incident and remains at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution awaiting a detention hearing.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attack or if the suspect had prior interactions with law enforcement.
