After it was revealed that a Nigerian healthcare worker in the UK was spotted praying for an elderly patient who was close to death, she was fired and deported.
Popular Nigerian physician Olufunmilayo claimed in a social media post that it was immoral for nurses in the UK to incorporate religion into their work.
He clarified that while praying for patients was not common, it was expected of nurses to ask a cleric to perform any religious ceremony on them, even if the patient asked for it.
In order to caution Nigerian doctors relocating to the UK not to pray for patients, Olufunmilayo claimed to have revealed the incidence.
“Praying for your patient is seen as an abuse of trust and misuse of your position,” the doctor continued. You are supposed to just do your work and pay attention to it.
