Kano State government says it is set to establish Computer Based Training (CBT) centres in schools and the 44 Local Government Areas of the state while ministries and parastatals will be enrolled into e-governance.

The Commissioner, Science, Technology and Innovation, Muhammad Tajo Othman, made this known at the 11th regular meeting of the National Council on communications, innovation and digital economy (NCCIDE) organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in collaboration with Kano State Government.

He said, “We are going to start with a pilot this year then next year we replicate in different locations and local governments. As you are aware, examinations are now going to be computer based so it’s our duty to make sure that our students in secondary schools are familiar with computers because currently a lot of them don’t even know what a keyboard is.

“We have some mobile banks that we are going to reactivate and we go round the schools with those banks and we coach those students on how to use and write computer based examinations.

“We also intend to have as a pilot CBT centres in each of the local governments this year and once that succeeds then we replicate. This year we have about N4 billion allocated and we expect to have interventions coming from different directions,” he said as reported by Daily Trust.

He added that the government had laudable programs and the Governor is up and doing as far as that is concerned as he hardly rejects any memo sent to him while the budget this year was quite improved.

Earlier, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Barrister Margaret Ene Ebute, highlighted that in Nigeria, communications and digital economy has continued to play a major role in developing the economy and therefore the meeting will consolidate on its role and provide the necessary pathway to policies that will deepen and sustain the sector
