A Kano State Sharia court sentenced Imrana Ibrahim to three months in jail for stealing a female student’s phone with a sharp knife in Nassarawa LGA’s Brigade area.
Vigilantes and adolescents arrested the offender and handed him over to the police.
Aliyu Abidin Murtala, the prosecutor, read the crime to the accused, who pled guilty.
Mallam Nura Yusuf Ahmed, the Khadi, sentenced him to three months in a detention prison.
Similarly, the court sentenced Basiru Yusuf, also known as Kafinta, to two and a half years in jail for fraudulent actions.
The accused, a native of Aujarawa village in Gezawa LGA, was charged with obtaining N500,000 from a POS operator via transfer and returning cash in a black nylon bag containing bits of paper.
Murtala, the prosecution, informed the court that Kafinta initially took N150,000 and ordered the POS operator to retain the money until he returned with more cash, after which he collected the complete transfer and fled, leaving the phoney money behind.
He stated that the suspect’s account was monitored and he was captured by police.
Mallam Ahmed, the Khadi, sentenced him to two years in prison for his first crime, with the option of an N60,000 fine. On the second offence, he was sentenced to six months in prison with the option of paying a N10,000 fine and returning the money to the owner, plus N50,000 spent on legal processes.
