Controversial figure Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has been transferred from Ikoyi Correctional Center to Kirikiri Prison by the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS).
The move, reportedly conducted discreetly over the weekend, follows Bobrisky’s sentencing to a six-month jail term for Naira abuse.
According to a reliable source within the NCS, the decision to move Bobrisky to Kirikiri was based on procedural grounds and security concerns.
The expansive nature of Kirikiri Prison was cited as a factor in the relocation.
The source confirmed that Bobrisky is now housed in the male cell alongside other inmates and will be treated like any other prisoner during his term.
The source stated, “It is procedural that he is moved to Kirikiri since it is an expansive prison compared to what we have here,” adding that due to security reasons, Okuneye was quietly moved to the facility where he will serve his term.
The source confirmed that the convict had been taken to the male cell with other inmates “and so he will be treated as a normal inmate,” he said.
Last week, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed down the sentence, emphasizing its deterrent effect on others who engage in similar offenses.
