A Kano State Shari’ah Court presided over by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has directed that the famous TikToker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, should undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a government hospital to ascertain her mental status.

The presiding judge noted that during her previous appearance in court she seemed to not be in a sound state of mind due to suspected drug influence.

It was gathered that Murja was brought to the court on Tuesday by the operatives of the Department of State Services.

The state Hisbah board had on February 13 arrested Kunya, 26, and arraigned her before the Shari’a Court after receiving several complaints from members of the public that she was terrorizing their area by bringing bad boys at midnight and inciting disturbance.

There was public outcry in the state on Monday when news broke that Murja was released from detention on the orders of the court.

Kunya was remanded by the court which fixed Tuesday, February 20 for ruling on her bail application.

Reacting to the allegation of her release and special treatment, Kano State government in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, said Murja was facing fresh allegation which necessitated her being taken out from detention for investigation by security agencies.

Kunya, who lives at Tishama of Hotoro Quarters Kano, is standing trial on a three-count charge of inciting public disturbance, belonging to criminal gang and criminal intimidation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Aminu Abdullahi, informed the court that members of the community where she lives complained that the defendant influenced their children on prostitution.

“You even said it in one of your videos which went viral that you are the leader of all the prostitutes in the city,” the prosecution said, adding that the offences contravened sections 341, 275 and 227 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

During Tuesday’s sitting, the presiding judge ordered that the dependant would remain under the custody of Kano State Hisbah Board which will be giving the court updates on her condition.

The judge then adjourned the matter to May, 20 for continuation of the case.
