The re-arraignment of a housewife, Hafsat Sani Suraj, her husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, and two others, Adamu Muhammad and Nasidi Muhammad, accused of participation in the murder of Nafiu Hafizu, before a Kano State High Court was postponed on Tuesday.
Hafsat was accused of murdering her “house help” Nafiu Hafizu, while the three others were accused of concealing the crime.
Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammad, the defence attorney, requested that the court delay the case to another date.
The accused were brought before a Kano magistrates’ court presided over by Hadiza Abdurrahman. They allegedly mislead the deceased’s relatives by claiming he died during piling surgery.
According to City & Crime, at the first arraignment, Hafsat pled not guilty to the charges after first admitting to the police that she single-handedly stabbed Nafiu multiple times as he attempted to stop her suicide.
Her re-arraignment was scheduled on Tuesday, February 6, in the high court, but was postponed when the prosecution counsel replaced the first charge sheet with another.
The prosecution counsels, headed by Aisha Mahmud, filed a motion to substitute the charge with another, claiming that the initial charge did not include a fourth defendant, Malam Nasidi Muhammad.
The defence team then asked for an adjournment of the re-arraignment to another day so that they could investigate the new charge.
Justice Zuwaira Yusuf approved the application and deferred the hearing to today, February 8.
