Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed why she chooses not to sign upcoming artists, saying the responsibility of managing musicians is too stressful.
In a recent interview with Forbes Africa, the Water and Garri hitmaker explained that she doesn’t believe she has the right skills to mentor and oversee other artists under her label.
“Everyone always asks me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift for that because artistes are stressful. I could be sleeping, and then wake up to find my artist trending for something else,” she said.
Instead of signing artists, the 45-year-old singer said she prefers to help in other ways, such as establishing a music school where aspiring musicians can develop their talents before joining record labels that can properly support their careers.
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added.
