The Ebonyi State Government is set to enforce strict compliance among its overseas scholarship beneficiaries, who are scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom by the end of September.
Chief Chaka Nweze, Chairman of the State Scholarship Board, announced that these scholars will be required to sign a formal agreement ensuring their return to Ebonyi upon completion of their studies.
The agreement will involve a contractual bond with the universities where the beneficiaries will study, obligating them to contribute their skills to the state for a minimum of five years after their education.
Nweze emphasized that the state expects to see substantial benefits from its investment in these students.
The state has invested approximately N3 billion in its national scholarship program, and beneficiaries have been admitted to various universities. Additional funding of about N9 billion has been allocated for the overseas program, covering their studies, living expenses, and associated costs such as flights and visas.
The scholarship board is currently working with three universities to facilitate the students’ academic pursuits and is overseeing their preparations, including passport and visa requirements.
Prof. Humphrey Nwaobashi, a board member, urged the beneficiaries to represent the state honorably and assured that their progress would be closely monitored.
