The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s Ilorin Zonal Command in Kwara State has detained 41 people and seized 12 vehicles suspected of transporting illegally mined solid minerals.
The commission said that the arrest was made in response to reliable information about illegal miners’ activity.
The EFCC Zonal Commander, Michael Nzekwe, said that the suspects were caught in various places in Kwara and Oyo states while carrying truckloads of various minerals out of the states.
He said that early investigations revealed that minerals suspected of being marble, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite, among others, were being moved out of the nation for manufacturing purposes at the cost of the Nigerian economy.
