A fire that broke out on Monday at Megida Onikanhun Compound in Edun, Ilorin South LGA of Kwara State, left approximately 120 people homeless.
According to reports, the inferno began around 11 a.m. and destroyed 44 rooms as well as a mosque in the 75-room building.

Some victims of the incident claimed they lost property and items worth millions of naira.
The firefighters had difficulty accessing the facility at first due to the clusters of houses and the terrain of the area, but they eventually brought it under control, it was learned.
The incident was confirmed by the fire service’s spokesman, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who attributed it to human error.
According to him, “Investigation revealed that an unknown person ignited a refuse, which was initially mistaken for harmless smoke. Unfortunately, it spread to the surrounding compound.
“The incident made more than 120 people homeless, affecting 44 rooms and a mosque in the 75-room Magaji Onikanhun Compound.” “Fortunately, there were no casualties,” he stated.
He stated that the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, has urged the general public to be cautious, especially during this period.
“They should not hesitate to call the fire brigade on time whenever there is any fire emergency in their areas as this would save lives and properties of people in the state,” he said.
