The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that petrol will be readily available across the country before the weekend.
This assurance came from the Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, following a meeting at the State House in Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside key figures such as the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, led discussions aimed at tackling the recent surge in petrol prices and ensuring a stable fuel supply.
Lokpobiri revealed that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the difficulties Nigerians are facing due to the current fuel crisis.
He stressed that the government is working to stabilize the supply and pricing of petroleum products in order to ease the burden on citizens.
While acknowledging the deregulation of the fuel sector, he noted that prices may vary across different regions but assured that with improved availability, market forces will naturally stabilize prices.
Meanwhile, Mugo Okuoha, Executive Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, outlined several regulatory measures being implemented to ensure both supply and price stability.
These include extended operating hours at loading depots and support for local refineries to boost production, which is expected to contribute significantly to stabilizing prices.
