FUNAAB VC Calls for Synergy Among Security Agencies

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde has called for synergy among the Nigerian Security Agencies to enhance efficient and effective security operations in the country.

Playing host to the topmost hierarchy of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from the Odeda Divisional Headquarters, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the meeting was aimed at bolstering the existing partnerships between both parties and ensuring the safety of the University Community.

Highlighting security as a top priority, Prof. Kehinde who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, reiterated the University’s commitment to cooperating with the NSCDC, Odeda Division even as he emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration among security operatives, including the Nigerian Police and other relevant agencies, to address security challenges effectively.

He further stated that synergising with other sister agencies would strengthen security measures and foster collaboration.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the NSCDC’s proactive approach to ensuring peace and safety on campus, commending them for their dedication to duties.

According to him, their engagement with the University Management to enhance cooperation has contributed significantly to a conducive academic environment.

Responding, the Divisional Officer in charge of Odeda, CSC Abiodun Akinwa, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception.

Stressing the importance of synergy, CSC Akin outlined the need to build upon existing relationships to enhance security efforts within and outside of the University campus.

Earlier, the Assistant Chief Environmental Officer (ACEO), Mr. Peter Bolarinwa, extended a warm welcome to the NSCDC Team, acknowledging their invaluable support during significant University events such as Matriculation and Convocation ceremonies.

He appreciated the NSCDC for their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the University Community.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Registrar II, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Moses Ayanda, including the Assistant Superintendent of Corps, Adebukola Adelegan, Kabiru Adeyemi, and Sakiru Jimoh who accompanied the NSCDC Odeda Divisional Officer.

VC Conducts Spot-Check on Walkway Construction

The University Administration has observed overtime the incautious pedestrian practices of some students on the Ceremonial Road and to enhance their safety along the Road, the University has proactively put in place an ongoing construction of a Walkway to forestall any form of preventable accidents.

On this premise, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde today, February 26, 2024, embarked on a site visit to engage with the workers and assess the development firsthand to ensure the quality of the construction project.

Fielding questions from FUNAAB Bulletin, the Vice-Chancellor stated the reason behind the construction of the Walkway, saying that the safety of the students was paramount.

According to him, the Walkway was designed to dissuade the students from walking on the road.

    Speaking further on the significance of the Walkway, Prof. Kehinde underscored its pivotal role in improving the safety and convenience for students and staff traversing the campus grounds.

   According to him, with its strategic placement and design, the Walkway was poised to mitigate potential hazards and streamline pedestrian traffic, fostering a conducive environment for academic pursuits.

Besides, the Vice-Chancellor articulated the broader objectives underlying the Walkway initiative, emphasising its dual function of enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

Meanwhile, beyond its utilitarian purpose, the Walkway was envisioned as a visually striking addition to the University landscape, and, elevating its overall ambience.

 

 

Rotary Club Supports Indigent FUNAABite

 

In a heartwarming display of compassion, the Rotary Club of Obantoko has stepped in to cover the school fees of a fresh student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

During a Courtesy Visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Rotary Club presented a cheque of N150,000 to Miss Deborah Jooda, a newly-admitted student in the Department of Agricultural Administration (AGAD), College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD).

Speaking at the meeting, the President of the Rotary Club of Obantoko, Rotarian Kazeem Alabi commended the University Management, particularly Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for his outstanding achievements since assuming office.

He expressed gratitude for the University’s decision to extend assistance to Miss Deborah Jooda when she faced challenges in paying her fees, noting that such acts of support are integral to the Rotary Club’s ethos of aiding those in need.

Reeling out some of the Club’s recent projects, Rotarian Alabi mentioned the successful intervention in the case of a five-year-old girl from FUNAAB Staff School who suffered a leg injury in a motorcycle accident.

    According to him, with the Rotary Club’s assistance, the girl had since recovered the ability to walk.

    He added that the club has contributed to improving sanitation facilities at Moshood Abiola Nursery and Primary School, Fajol, and has supported underprivileged students at Orekete Primary School, Odeda Local Government Area.

    Rotarian Alabi stressed the need for the Rotary Club to work hand in hand with the University to promote progress and development.

    Responding to the gesture, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde who was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, expressed gratitude for the support extended to the student and other projects undertaken by the Rotary Club.

    The Vice-Chancellor pledged the University’s commitment to partner with the club to make a lasting impact on the University.
