Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, has refuted claims that its website was compromised by hackers, labeling such reports as completely baseless.

On Wednesday night, the GTBank website, gtbank.com, became inaccessible, raising concerns among users.

This incident occurred shortly after the domain was renewed for an additional five years, now valid until March 21, 2029.

Despite the online chatter, no group has claimed responsibility for the supposed attack.

Some speculated that the issue could involve a fraudulent replica of the website designed to steal customers’ information.

A cybersecurity expert suggested that the problem might have stemmed from compromised login credentials rather than a full-scale hijacking of the domain.

Amidst these concerns, GTBank’s mobile applications on both Android and iOS platforms continued to function without any issues.

An insider at the bank, who chose to remain anonymous, clarified that the website’s downtime was due to a connectivity problem, entirely unrelated to hacking.

The source said, “It’s false. What we are experiencing is a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with the alleged hacking.”
