Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan, now known as Madrina, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to ease the growing economic hardship in the country.
In a recent video on her TikTok page, Madrina admitted that she initially supported Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, believing it was necessary. However, she now feels that Nigeria is not fully prepared for total subsidy removal, as it has led to inflation and increased suffering.
She explained that fuel prices directly impact the cost of goods and services, and with the rising exchange rate, many Nigerians are struggling. She pointed out that the country’s GDP per capita is only $860, making it difficult for people to survive under these conditions.
Madrina believes that while subsidy removal could help Nigeria in the long run, the country currently lacks the necessary structures to make it work. She urged the government to consider reinstating at least 50% of the subsidy to reduce the hardship faced by citizens.
Rather than protesting or criticizing the government, she suggested Nigerians should collectively appeal to the authorities for relief, emphasizing that people are hungry, and crime is on the rise.
