Nigerian singer Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has urged the court to investigate Omowunmi, the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, along with 14 others who were reportedly present at his house 48 to 72 hours before his death.
Naira Marley’s lawyer, Olusola Okuwobi, revealed this in a statement sent to PUNCH Metro on Sunday. The singer testified virtually before the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, stating that he was out of the country when Mohbad died.
According to the statement, Naira Marley insisted that he had no issues with Mohbad before his passing and clarified the nature of their previous contract. He urged the coroner to shift focus from suspects identified by the police and social media and instead interrogate those who were with Mohbad in his final hours.
Okuwobi also mentioned that Naira Marley accused these individuals of trying to evade responsibility by circulating an old video, despite knowing that Mohbad had already apologized for it before leaving Marlian Music.
His testimony follows that of an auxiliary nurse who recently appeared before the coroner’s court.
Meanwhile, The Concerned Nigeria Citizens in Diaspora, a group of Nigerians abroad, has called for a fresh investigation into Mohbad’s death. In a statement signed by spokesperson Victoria Janolewsky-Peters, they urged the police to question those present at Mohbad’s house, including his wife, Omowunmi, and his brother, Adura Aloba, who they claim gave contradictory accounts of events.
The group emphasized the need for the Nigerian police homicide unit to thoroughly re-examine the case, describing it as a suspected homicide.
Mohbad, a former artist under Marlian Music, passed away on September 12 at the age of 27. Before his death, he had repeatedly accused Naira Marley and his associate, Samson Eletu (aka Sam Larry), of orchestrating attacks against him.
