The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has taken a step by lodging a petition with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) against its 2023 Presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and 13 others over purported fraudulent activities.
In the statement titled ‘Petition against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and 13 others over mismanagement of NNPP funds’ signed by NNPP’s National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the party accused Kwankwaso of using NNPP for personal gains and to advance the Kwankwasiya movement.
According to Vanguard, the petition, dated May 2, 2024, was promptly submitted to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on the same day.
Oginni claims that Kwankwaso, along with influential figures like Elder Buba Galadima, Senator Hunkuyi Suleiman, and Prof. Bem Angwe, approached NNPP’s leadership in 2022 seeking to contest the presidential election under the party’s banner.
Allegedly, Kwankwaso’s intention was not genuine, but rather to exploit the party for personal enrichment.
The NNPP asserted that it extended cooperation to Kwankwaso, evident in the dissolution of its National Executive Committee and the election of new officers, based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both parties.
However, the unfolding events purportedly revealed Kwankwaso’s ulterior motives, leading the NNPP to conclude that he was not genuinely interested in the presidential election but instead sought to leverage the platform for personal gain.
The petition signalled a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, raising questions about integrity and transparency within political parties and their leaders.
