For the second time in under a year, the Lagos State Government has shut down Ile Epo Market, the second largest food market in the state, following Mile 12.
This closure, carried out on Monday by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), is attributed to environmental violations.
Previously, the market had been closed for about four weeks due to similar issues.

LAWMA trucks were seen within the market as the gates were locked, preventing traders and buyers from entering.
While specific details of the infraction have not been disclosed, a source revealed that the closure was due to significant waste accumulation in the market, raising concerns about a potential cholera outbreak.
Despite the market’s condition, the Ministry of Environment has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
