Peruvian authorities have launched an investigation into the leak of singer Shakira’s medical records after her recent treatment at a Lima clinic.
The 48-year-old was admitted to the emergency room on Saturday for an abdominal issue, leading her to cancel a major Sunday performance. Shortly after her hospitalization, her medical records were leaked online.
In response, Ruby Cubas, a spokesperson for Peru’s national health service, warned that the hospital could face sanctions and heavy fines.
She confirmed that officials met with the clinic’s representatives and received an explanation, but the details remain confidential.
The investigation is set to last for 25 days. The hospital, Delgado Clinic, has also announced it is conducting its own inquiry into what it called a “serious ethical breach” regarding the mishandling of personal data.
