In July 2024, the price of petrol in Nigeria surged, reaching as high as N950 per liter, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Katsina State recorded the highest price at N950 per liter, followed by Jigawa and Benue States, where petrol was sold at N903.08 and N846.95 per liter, respectively.
In contrast, Kwara, Edo, and Akwa Ibom States had the lowest prices, with averages of N650.00, N669.75, and N673.75 per liter.
The NBS also reported that the average price of petrol across the country for the month was N770.54 per liter.

This significant increase in fuel prices follows the Nigerian government’s removal of fuel subsidies, which had previously kept the price at N238 per liter as of May 2023.
