The Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party has vehemently opposed the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) appointment of an interim chairman in Gombe State.
The Apapa faction expressed strong disapproval of the appointment, labeling it as unacceptable.
Similarly, the Julius Abure faction declared its unawareness of the appointment, emphasizing the presence of a substantive state chairman already in place in Gombe.
A letter outlining the objection was dispatched to key stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Department of State Services (DSS), Gombe State Police Command, and the Secretary to the Gombe State Government.
The spokesperson for the Apapa faction, Abayomi Arabambi, disowned the arrangement, asserting that the NLC lacked the authority to impose individuals on the party. Arabambi vowed to take constitutional action against the NLC, highlighting the discord between the party’s growth aspirations and the NLC’s purported personal ambitions.
Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, affirmed the existence of a substantive state chairman in Gombe and expressed unawareness of the recent appointment. Ifoh clarified that the individual appointed, Abdulsalam, was previously removed from office for alleged anti-party activities and that the NWC was not involved in the recent development.
The party intends to address the conflict internally, aiming for a resolution while refraining from engaging in media disputes.
