President Bola Tinubu has condoled with the president and people of Malawi, following the death of the its vice president, Saulos Chilima and other officials in a plane crash.
Tinubu’s condolence was contained in a statement by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday, June 11.
The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu extends his sincere condolences to His Excellency, President Lazarus Chakwera, and the people of Malawi over the passing of Vice-President Saulos Chilima and other officials in a plane crash.
“President Tinubu commiserates with the families of the deceased over this deeply distressing incident, which happened on a mournful Monday, June 10, 2024.
“The President assures the Malawian nation of Nigeria’s support during this time of mourning and prays for the repose of the souls of the departed.”
Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera, had earlier on Tuesday, confirmed that Vice President Saulos Chilima was killed in a plane crash, after searchers located the wreckage of the aircraft in a foggy forest.
The military plane carrying Chilima, 51, and nine others disappeared on Monday, after it failed to land in the northern city of Mzuzu due to bad weather and was told to return to the capital, Lilongwe.
