President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with the Organized Labour in Abuja on Thursday to discuss a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
According to a high-ranking labour source, the President has invited leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to the meeting, which will take place at Aso Villa in the nation’s capital.

During the meeting, President Tinubu is expected to make a decision regarding the ₦62,000 proposal from the government and private sector, as well as the ₦250,000 demand from Organized Labour.
This upcoming meeting follows the President’s Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, in which he announced that an executive bill on the new national minimum wage would soon be presented to the National Assembly for approval.
On June 25, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by the President, postponed discussions on the new minimum wage memo to allow for further stakeholder engagement.
Subsequently, on June 27, President Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima attended the 141st meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) to deliberate with governors from all 36 states and ministers on the proposed new minimum wage.
