Former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has given a subtle jibe at the coalition of political parties in Nigeria.
He said no matter how they try to come together, they can’t remove president Bola Tinubu.
He said the current attempt to form the coalition is not about the major opposition parties, but that of individuals, which he said are not carrying their parties along, “by law, only registered parties can formally and officially merge,” he said.
Shekarau said the merger that birthed APC that wrestled power from PDP is different from the current coalition.
“It is therefore wrong for anyone to assume that the 2013 merger that produced a strong opposition in APC is comparable to today’s ‘coalition’ of ‘aspirants’.”
He said even what happened at the national assembly over the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers shows that the coalition has no control over the opposition members.
Shekarau said had it been they have the control, “the APC government could not have garnered the required number of votes to pass the law sent to the National Assembly by President Tinibu.”
