Two police officers were slain in the early hours of Wednesday when armed bandits stormed Kasuwar Daji village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The bandits also kidnapped more than 40 locals, including 21 members of the same family.
This occurred two weeks after Governor Dauda Lawal announced the Community Protection Guards (CPG), which are intended to supplement the efforts of conventional security officers.
The event at the Trade Fair complex in Gusau, the state capital, attracted the six other governors from the North-West: Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Sokoto.
A source close to the abducted family members informed Daily Trust over the phone that the armed bandits assaulted the village about 1 a.m. on Tuesday in a vengeance operation.
According to the source, the gunmen abducted 21 members of the family of former NURTW leader Alhaji Hamisu Kasuwar Daji, including his two wives, 13 children, a brother, and the defendants.
He also stated that two police officers were murdered during the tragic three-hour operation.
“As soon as they got in the area, they stormed the police station, which belongs to Alhaji Hamisu Kasuwar Daji. They invaded the house and kidnapped two wives. The third woman was fortunate; the bandits could not get entrance to her room.
“They also searched numerous houses nearby and kidnapped many individuals before leaving the village. We were horrified by the incident,” he explained.
According to the Daily Trust, the police have yet to release a comment on the event.
Zamfara has been in the news for a long time, with thousands of people slain, property plundered, and some towns displaced.
