A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged rights violations.
Kanu, in suit number FHC/CS/1633/2023, claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) and its Director General infringed on his right to fair hearing by allegedly obstructing his lawyers’ access to him and monitoring their interactions ahead of his criminal trial.
In a judgment delivered today, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu did not present sufficient evidence to support his allegations of interference with his legal consultations or unauthorized surveillance of his conversations with counsel, which he argued constituted violations of his rights.
