The Adamawa State Police Command apprehended a 42-year-old man for mistakenly assaulting his 9-year-old daughter, believing she was his wife.
The suspect, Auwalu Shuaibu, admitted to the crime upon his return from a gathering, Daily Trust reports.
The Adamawa Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore, confirmed the arrest on March 11, 2024.
Auwalu expressed regret for his actions at the Yola police headquarters on Thursday, revealing that the incident occurred after his return from a gathering at Gizga.
Auwalu mentioned they went out with his friend Bashiru to supply welding materials, had some whiskey, and later got hard drugs at the cattle market.
He shared that after returning around 6:00 pm, he fell asleep and woke up to find his daughter beside him, mistaking her for his wife.
Auwalu expressed regret, stating he has turned away from drinking beer and using illicit substances.
SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore revealed that CP Dankombo Morris instructed a thorough investigation into the incident and the prosecution of the suspect.
