Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu, expressed his satisfaction with the Federal High Court’s ruling that nullified the Edo State governorship primary election.
On Thursday, Shaibu reacted to the judgment by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, asserting that the PDP’s February 22, 2024, primary was merely a social gathering without legal standing.
Shaibu reiterated his longstanding criticism that the PDP undermined internal democracy through the fraudulent conduct of the primary at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
He emphasized that the delegates who supported him at his alternative primary were the legitimate representatives chosen by the people to select the PDP’s governorship candidate.
Regarding the possibility of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shaibu stated that it was acceptable as long as democracy served the majority’s interest.
He noted that while the APC is actively recruiting members, the PDP is alienating them, suggesting the latter’s intent to rig the election.
Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo invalidated the February 22 primary, citing the unlawful exclusion of 378 delegates who were supposed to participate in the election.
