The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said yesterday that it will set aside $8.6 billion for its health intervention projects in Nigeria by the year 2024.
The budget is $2 billion more than that of 2021 and is up 4% from the previous year.

A portion of the additional funding will be used to advance global health innovations that will save and improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world, such as low-income pregnant mothers and newborn babies, the foundation noted, as global health budgets are generally declining.

The foundation’s mission was reaffirmed by Bill Gates, who co-founded it in 2000 with his then-wife Melinda. He said, “We can’t talk about the future of humanity without talking about the future of health.”Newborns and young children pass away every day for no other reason than where they were born. When mothers pass away during childbirth, families are saddened. I can’t sleep at night over it. It is intolerable, especially in light of the fact that many of the treatments that could save their lives have already been created. The foundation of a stronger, more stable world is sound health.

The Gates Foundation was established in 2000 with the goal of eradicating the biggest injustices in the world. To this end, it has developed projects that deal with topics including public education, gender equality, and agricultural development.

The foundation has made sponsoring the creation of innovative instruments and approaches to lessen the burden of infectious diseases and the main causes of child mortality in low-income nations a primary priority in order to eliminate health disparities.

At the World Economic Forum gathering in Davos, Switzerland, Gates and other foundation executives want to demonstrate their devotion by carrying backpacks.

The backpacks will include basic medical supplies that have the potential to save millions of lives, such as vaccine patches and an ultrasound device with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. During the occasion, Gates is also scheduled to talk about the wider possibilities of AI in healthcare.
