Governors must collaborate with NASS members to achieve progress – Minister

State governors have been advised to cultivate strong ties with the members of the National Assembly who represent their constituencies, with the aim of promoting development that will enhance the well-being of the inhabitants.

Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, provided this advice during the inauguration of a digital conference centre at Lagos State University (LASU). The centre was made possible by the former representative of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency and the current Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajamiala.

He stated that the events witnessed today demonstrate that progress is achieved when there is harmony between state governors and members of the national legislature.

Additional initiatives undertaken in the Surulere 1 constituency encompassed the conversion of a two-lane road into a dual carriageway at Babs Animashaun Road, and by the construction of a bridge in the Census Area.

Furthermore, a compact multipurpose stadium and a general hospital with a capacity of 80 beds were established on Iyun Road.

During the commissioning, the ex-speaker expressed that holding a public position entails the duty to fulfil the social contract with the public.

Emphasising the need of partnership, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State reaffirmed that the purpose of governance is to provide beneficial outcomes to the citizens.

He said that the state administration has initiated a collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health to create a medical university within the state by the end of 2024.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by notable individuals including as former deputy governor Femi Pedro and LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.
