The Governor, Seyi Makinde, has stated that he’ll not allow establishing shari’a law in his state.
The governor said Oyo state government under his watch will not allow, insisting that he’ll challenge their establishment in his state.
He argued that they can’t be legally right, saying that is why he’s planning to go to court to challenge the legality.
The courts has been established in some states in South West part of Nigeria, which has generated a heated debate.
Many people opposing the idea are saying they don’t want it because it’s Islamically oriented.
While on the other end, supporters of the idea are saying they want it because it will not be binding on everybody.
But Seyi Makinde in a statement by his press secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said since from day, they’ve opposed the idea of behalf of the majority of their people.
“Does the Constitution allow that? That is what will determine the actions that will be taken by the state because we cannot do anything other than the Constitution,” Olanrewaju said.
