The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed concern over the alleged manipulation of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing detention by certain individuals for political gain.
In a statement, IPOB emphasized that Kanu’s imprisonment in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) should not be exploited for political purposes.
The group specifically called out some politicians and leaders from the Igbo community, accusing them of using Kanu’s plight to further their own ambitions.
According to IPOB, these politicians appear more concerned with maintaining or boosting their political influence in the Southeast region rather than genuinely advocating for Kanu’s release.

The group claims that some individuals, who secretly collaborate with the Nigerian government, are content with Kanu’s continued detention, viewing it as beneficial to their personal political agendas.
IPOB also acknowledged the efforts of certain leaders who are sincerely working toward Kanu’s release, urging them not to be discouraged.
The group warned that they are closely monitoring the actions of all involved, and that those who exploit Kanu’s situation for selfish reasons will face repercussions.
IPOB reiterated their belief that as long as Kanu remains detained, the security and economic conditions in Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast, will continue to deteriorate.
The group concluded by asserting their influence over the Southeast and cautioned that any political ambitions tied to Kanu’s imprisonment would ultimately be thwarted.
