Kano Govt Flags Off 11 Shuttle Buses for Students’ Relief Scheme, Cautions Saboteurs

The Kano State Government has launched a relief transportation scheme for tertiary institution students in the state.

While launching the buses at Gidan Murtala, the Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, stated that the initiative aims to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by students in attending their lectures and to actualize the accomplishment of the declaration of education on the state of emergency.

The Deputy Governor, who also serves as the Commissioner for the Ministry of Higher Education, further explained that the scheme became imperative to relieve the students high cost of transportation while attending lectures to various institutions.

He urged students to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the present administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, tagged the “Abba Gida-Gida Students’ Relief Transportation Scheme,” by remaining committed to their studies.

He added that the eleven shuttle buses have been designated to operate on different routes at the minimal rate on electronically payment, the routes including:

-Gidan Murtala to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil

-Gidan Murtala to BUK New Site

-Gidan Murtala to Airport Road (KACEPS)

-Gidan Murtala to Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education to Kura Informatics

-Gidan Murtala to Northwest University

-Gidan Murtala to Audu Bako College of Agricultural Development, Danbatta and

-Gidan Murtala to College of Education and Remedial studies, Ghari.

The Commissioner directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education to oversee the conduct of the buses and take action against anyone attempting to sabotage the scheme.

“We will not spare anyone found jeopardizing Governor Abba Yusuf’s unwavering support in revitalizing the education sector from basic to tertiary levels in the state,” Comrade Abdussalam stated.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya mni, assured the government that the ministry would remain committed to ensuring the success of the program.

Vice-Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, noted that over 10,000 students commute daily to the university due to a shortage of accommodation. He emphasized that parents spend a significant amount on transportation for their children, but with this initiative it would be address and students’ academic performance will also improve.

A student, Abdullahi Mustapha, expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy for initiating the scheme and pledged students’ loyalty toward the development of education in the state.
