Dr Asmau M Ahmed, of the Department of Geography, at Kaduna State University, secured a research grant under the British Council Going Global Partnership worth twenty-four thousand one hundred and eighty-two pounds and eighty pence (£24,182.80) only.
The title of the project is “Gender and Leadership in Higher Education: Promoting Gender-Inclusive Language to Advance the Representation of Women in Leadership through Collaboration with Diverse Stakeholders.”
This innovative project will be conducted with other researchers: Prof. Hauwa’u E. Yusuf of the Department of Sociology, Mrs Bashariya Mustapha Baba of the Department of Geography and the esteemed team at York St John University and Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom.
The research seeks to address and dismantle barriers to women’s representation in leadership roles within the higher education landscape. The duration for the execution of the research is 12 months.
The research will explore the impact of gender-inclusive language on the promotion of women in leadership positions within higher education institutions. By collaborating with a wide array of stakeholders, the project aims to identify and implement strategies that foster an inclusive environment, breaking down systemic barriers that hinder the progress of women in higher education leadership.
Through this research, the team aims to contribute to a cultural shift within the academia, promoting gender-inclusive language as a catalyst for increased representation of women in leadership positions. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, to create a model for other institutions seeking to advance gender equality within their leadership structures.
This initiative is a call to action for all members of the academic community to join in this important endeavour, share your insights, and be a part of the movement toward a more inclusive and diverse higher education landscape.
Together, let’s pave the way for a future where gender equality thrives in higher education leadership!
