Janet Kyeme, a second-year student at the Federal University, Lokoja, has been reported missing while on her way to attend lectures at the university. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday as she was heading to the main campus at Felele in Lokoja. It is unclear whether this is a case of kidnapping.
According to City & Crime, Janet, who is studying Library and Information Science (LIS), was last seen that Friday morning when she took a motorcycle from her family home in the Zango – Army Barracks area of Lokoja to go to school.
Concern grew when her foster father, a pastor of a Pentecostal church in Lokoja, realized she had not returned from school that day. “She left for school on Friday morning as usual. When she didn’t come back, her foster father and others tried to reach her, but her cell phone was switched off. We sent a sister to the school to find her but without success. The family is extremely worried as we have had no contact from anyone since she disappeared,” said Pastor Joseph, a close friend of the family.
The university authorities have stated that they are doing everything possible, in collaboration with the security agencies and other relevant bodies, to locate the missing student. “We are taking all necessary steps to find out where she is. We hope our efforts will lead to a positive outcome. As this is a security matter, we cannot provide further details at this time,” said an anonymous director from the institution.
When asked about the situation, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, stated that it currently appears to be a case of a missing person, as no contact has been made with the family by any alleged abductors. The investigation is still ongoing.
