On August 1, 2024, Nigerians began a protest against hunger and hardship, gathering in large numbers to voice their grievances.
The demonstrations began peacefully but soon turned violent in various states, resulting in property damage, injuries, and fatalities.
In response to the escalating situation, several northern governors imposed curfews to maintain order:
Borno State: A 24-hour curfew was declared by the Borno State Police Command following chaotic scenes in the Bulunkutu area of Maiduguri, where police used teargas to disperse unruly protesters.
Yobe State: The Yobe State Government also enforced a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru after reports of looting and vandalism during the protests.

Kano State: Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced a 24-hour curfew in Kano State during a press conference, aiming to curb the unrest caused by the protests.
Nasarawa State: A dusk-to-dawn curfew was implemented in Karu Local Government Area due to violent incidents, including looting and vandalism, near the Federal Capital Territory border.
Jigawa State: An indefinite 24-hour curfew was imposed by Governor Malam Umar Namadi to address the violent turn of the protests in the state.
Katsina State: The government imposed a 24-hour curfew in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area and a nightly 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM curfew across the other 33 LGAs. Additionally, Acting Governor Malam Faruk Jobe banned all types of protests and unusual gatherings to prevent further unrest.
