Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has knocked former Anambra governor Peter Obi, for his lack of response following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant financial autonomy to local government areas.
In a Friday night post, Onanuga accused the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate of being quick to share unverified news about President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria, while remaining silent on significant positive developments.
Onanuga stressed that a credible opposition should acknowledge and praise their political rivals when they achieve notable accomplishments.

He urged the former governor of Anambra State to recognize Tinubu’s efforts in strengthening Nigeria.
“Why is Peter Obi silent? More than 36 hours after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling granting financial autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 local councils, Mr. Peter Obi, the defeated Labour Party candidate, has yet to comment on this significant judgment. His silence suggests he is quick to tweet unverified news about the Tinubu administration or our country,” Onanuga stated.
“A good opposition statesman must be candid enough to applaud his political opponent when he has done something commendable. The Tinubu administration has successfully revitalized our weakened councils through legal means. Even Atiku Abubakar has reluctantly acknowledged this. But Peter has been silent. He should break his silence and acknowledge that President Tinubu is making a great Nigeria possible,” Onanuga added.
