According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, three students who were trapped in the building have been rescued and are receiving medical care.
The building, which housed students, fell during a heavy downpour that started on Friday afternoon.
The institution stated that while rescue operations are ongoing, the initial reports indicate no loss of life.
Emergency teams, including university staff, fire service personnel, and police, were involved in the rescue efforts.
The students who were rescued were initially treated at the university’s Health Centre before two were transferred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
The university praised the rescuers for their effective response and wished the injured students a swift recovery.
Earlier in the day, the collapse had caused alarm among the local student community, as the affected building was located on Ekhator Street, a popular area for students residing near the university.
