Kano’s Police Commissioner, AIG Usaini Gumel, has replied Governor Abba Yusuf’s after he ordered the eviction of deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Governor Yusuf had instructed the CP, through the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, to remove the former Emir from the Nasarawa mini palace.
In an interview with on Friday, Gumel explained that complying with the eviction order would preempt an ongoing legal case filed by the same government at the State High Court.
Scheduled for June 24, 2024, this case questions the eviction order itself.
“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because there is a pending court case regarding the eviction order scheduled for June 24, 2024,” Gumel stated.
“Executing the order now would be premature and could undermine the legal process.”
As of now, Bayero remains at the mini palace, where he continues to receive traditional greetings from loyal supporters.
Reports of imminent demolition, including the presence of a bulldozer, were dismissed as unfounded social media rumors by one of Bayero’s aides.
