Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated the urgency of implementing state police in Nigeria.
He made this known during a dialogue session organized by the House of Representatives in Abuja.
Jonathan emphasized that state police are crucial for ensuring adequate security across the nation, reflecting on the unanimous support for this measure during the 2014 national conference.
He stressed the importance of focusing on how state police would operate effectively rather than debating their necessity.
Additionally, Jonathan called for broader security reforms, including a revamp of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fair elections and the strengthening of legal frameworks to prevent the misuse of state police for political purposes.
His statements come amid growing concerns over the escalation of kidnapping, terrorism, and other crimes in Nigeria, prompting calls for urgent action to address security challenges.
