2023 Presidential Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Nwanyanwu has claimed that former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, intends to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Nwanyanwu, who is also the national chairman of ZLP, made these allegations over the weekend during discussions on national issues in Abuja.
Nwanyanwu suggested that Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will step down from his ministerial position between late 2025 and early 2026 to pursue his presidential aspirations.
He urged President Tinubu to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State prudently to protect Nigerian democracy, asserting that Wike’s recent actions hint at his presidential ambitions.
“Wike should not create problems in Rivers that will affect your office as President. If the issue is about 2027, the person you should engage with is Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He is the current governor,” Nwanyanwu advised. “Wike will run against you, President Tinubu, in 2027. Mark my words, despite his current activities in Abuja, he will contest for the presidency.”
This speculation comes amid various political maneuvers and tensions in Rivers State.
